During hack week at Marqeta, we have always pushed to make progress on big challenges in innovative, clever, and sometimes wacky ways. For Hack Week Summer 2020, we challenged ourselves not only to transform and optimize our platform and customer experience but also to better support our community and find ways to bring Marqetans closer together. Through 23 projects, countless video chats, and some hilarious presentation videos, we got a glimpse of our Next Normal.
We had 5 categories that Hack Week teams submitted to —
Scale: Maximizes resources
Optimize: Efficiency driven
Transform: Pioneers what could come next
Community: Brings delight to those around us
Culture: Brings us closer together
Winners of each challenge will be receiving a gift card that can be used to contribute to a charity of their choosing. A small sample of the charities winners will choose from:
ACLU, GLAAD, NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, The Bail Project, ASPCA, Humane Society, Unicef, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, ALA, amfAR, American Red Cross, Bay Area Black United Fund, Meals on Wheels, Planned Parenthood, Lighthouse International, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Covenant House, and Geek Girl Con
Without further ado let’s present the winners!
WE’VE GOT A TIE!

And as an honorable mention in the wacky category (which we made up to add this video)— custom Marqeta filters for video calls!
This hack week was different from past ones in some very obvious ways, but like every other hack week, it was a fantastic time to connect and explore with other Marqetans.
